Silicon Valley is home to a range of dining options. The pandemic was harsh on many owners and general managers while creating opportunities for others. Here’s an overview of restaurants and dining establishments planning to open in 2025, with some we lost in 2024.

San Jose

Adega: San Jose’s only Michelin-starred restaurant reopened in October after closing in December 2023. Serving Portuguese cuisine, owners Carlos and Fernanda Carreira had planned to turn the 1614 Alum Rock Ave. location into a second location for their Petiscos restaurant but had a most welcome change of heart.

Augustine: The Bacchus Management Group’s second restaurant in Santana Row will offer Mediterranean cuisine in two dining rooms across 8,000 square feet as well as a 3,000-square-foot patio space. The site, formerly a dim sum restaurant, will also have a reservations-only cocktail bar.

Campus Burgers: Home of the $2 smash burger, this family-run burger stand opened in July offering students and locals an inexpensive alternative to the larger chains. Located across the street from San Jose State University at 108 Paseo de San Antonio, this little burger joint has become a student staple.

An affiliate of the company sold the property for $9.25 million, according to records filed with the Santa Clara County Clerk Recorder’s Office Jan. 13. The buyer was listed as 5407 Camden Ave. LLC in county records.

CVS had a 15-year run in the South San Jose site. It bought the roughly 25,000-square-foot building from Longs Drugs in 2008.

CVS’s stated goal was to reduce store density and optimize its existing stores and pharmacies.

Five Bay Area restaurants have been tapped to the California Michelin Guide across Oakland, San Francisco and Wine Country.

The so-called “new discoveries” are eligible for further honors including the prestigious Michelin Star or budget-friendly Bib Gourmand awards at the French tire company’s California ceremony, to be held at the Ritz-Carlton Half Moon Bay on Aug. 5. The Bay Area picks were among 13 from across the state in the latest batch, which featured three from San Francisco including Tenderloin gem Azalina’s from Chef Azalina Eusope.

The new additions to the list are:

Molti Amici (Italian) at 330 Healdsburg Ave., Healdsburg;

Burdell (American) at 4640 Telegraph Ave., Oakland;

Azalina’s (Malaysian) at 499 Ellis St., San Francisco;

Tiya (Indian) at 3213 Scott St., San Francisco.

See the slideshow at the top of our article for more on what Michelin inspectors had to say about each restaurant. The restaurants are highlighted as “New” on the guide website and automatically appear under the broader “Recommended” category.

The French tire company has announced its 2024 California guide selections in regular batches throughout the year, previously in March and May — but to date this year had tapped just one Bay Area restaurant, 7 Adams, from Marlena chef alums and Hi Neighbor hospitality group’s Ryan Cole.

In 2023, the Michelin Guide California crowned ten new Bib Gourmand restaurants, four new Green Stars (for sustainable practices) and six new Michelin starred restaurants statewide.

In April Michelin expanded to hotels with its “Michelin Key” rankings, featuring 19 Bay Area stays.
