The city of San Leandro is located in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area. San Leandro is located between Oakland to the northwest and Hayward to the south east. This city is bounded by Oakland to the north, the unincorporated area of Castro Valley to the east, Hayward to the south, and the San Francisco Bay to the west.

San Leandro is home to several food processing companies as well several other industrial corporations.

Air transportation is provided by Oakland and San Francisco International Airports and Hayward Air Terminal.
